i recently wrote this in a fun little interview and wanted to share it with you: "....the whole idea of personal style - finding exactly what appeals to you and suits your personality and lifestyle best, and building a wardrobe around it. who cares what others are wearing, what the trends are. you can be inspired by and take elements from those, but wear what you like, and most importantly, what feels like you. it will be authentic and real, and that’s true style."

wanting to make up for lost time and missed posts over the past few months, i thought, what better way than with thirty days of personal outfits posts (a la british vogue's "today i'm wearing...")? it sounds so appealing because i'm feeling inspired, and i've accumulated an impressive winter wardrobe. i also may be completely crazy. this could be impossible with my schedule and current demeanor, as i've had it a bit rough as of late. but a fun ass kicking project such as this may just be what i need to get back into the swing of things. impossible isn't in my dictionary. it shouldn't be in yours either.

i miss blogging.

hey lovelies, thought i'd do a quick little update :)
no crazy christmas wishlists here; there's a lot that i'm coveting, but not much that i need in the material aspects of life. i sold my clunky SLR and am using the cash to get myself a nice point & shoot; there's some stuff that i wouldn't mind having (and might post about tomorrow!), but they are just unnecessaries that i can buy myself eventually if funds permit. this christmas, i'm just incredibly thankful to have three days off work so i could make the drive to indiana and relax with my family with no rush to hurry back to chicago. i'm also completely satisfied to receive much of nothing and instead give the most important people in my life little gifts. nothing makes me happier than making the ones i love happy. but spending time with them is all that really matters, and all that i really want.

i spent christmas eve and christmas day sleeping in, eating dinner at my favorite mexican restaurant in indy, drinking beer, devouring multiple desserts, and watching some classics: christmas vacation, a christmas story, rudloph, and charlie brown christmas.

new caylee lives in chicago and new caylee loves color. you will see, ever since moving here, i have added so much color to my wardrobe. there must be something in this new city water i'm drinking (i kid, i kid). it is easiest for me to play with more neutral colors (like these pants) vs brights, but i do have some neon yellow, barbie pink, and electric blue pieces - get excited for outfit posts with those :)

i searched long and hard and even tweeted about wanting to find a pair of burgundy skinny cords - who would've thought we'd get them in at h&m, of all places? not quite the high waist i wanted, but for the price, they will do. this forever 21 blouse very much resembles an equipment blouse and for under 20 bucks, makes my heart and wallet sing. and you guys remember these steve madden booties and the bb dakota alexander wang knock-off blazer from the manyyyyy other times i've worn it here on my blog. still my favorite piece of outerwear in my closet.

i think that emma (http://www.tresawesome.com/) and are going to have a beautiful relationship, don't you? these pictures she took turned out grand. also huge thanks to lodis for gifting us the bag and belt, they are the perfect accessories to compliment this look. the changing of the leaves and the weather make this my favorite time of year, and i walk out onto my tree-lined street (where these shots were taken) every morning, happy to take in the views before old man winter comes bearing down.

and not a better way to announce this than with a post of me in a giant tiger head.
no, this wasn't my costume (i rocked jackie burkhart from that 70s show in a sweater vest and flare jeans), but i teamed up with emma from the chicago street style blog tres awesome to shoot some outfit photos this past weekend, and she showed up at my place with this mask in tow, wanting to take some halloween-themed shots that would capture people's attention. let's just say that it definitely turned the heads of passersby on the street. i'm probably known to all my neighbors now as the crazy girl who struts around in heels and animal costumes on a saturday morning. gosh it was really hot in that head, and the cold made my legs even my paler (if that's possible). i had tons of fun though (thanks emma!), and i cannot wait to show you guys my first real outfit post in months. for the first time in three months, my computer is virus free, i got access to an internet connection, and most importantly, found a few precious hours of free time to spend mindlessly browsing my beloved yet neglected sites. let's just say it was like me in a candy store (har har). anywho, the first thing on my mind was checking out the alexa chung for madewell collection - just as good as i'd imagined. the design and styling embody exactly what i'm feeling and how i've been dressing lately.

i can't really pick a favorite piece because they are all so impeccable, but i recently wore an outfit almost indentical to the look with the thora skinny cords, the valentina pajama top makes palm trees for autumn seem dangerously appropriate, and who doesn't love the zowie boots in calf hair, the perfect pair of leopard print stompers to go with....everything.

random musings: why doesn't chicago have a madewell? there's a j.crew on every corner, but the lovely little sister brand can't have some love too? come to us madewell, pretty please? :)

hey kiddos...it's been a while, huh? i want to apologize to you, dear friends, fans, sponsors, and readers, for my lengthy absense. it's not that i want to be away or to stop blogging in general, it's just that to stay sane, life is all about prioritizing, and there are certain things that i need to take care of before i can happily sit down and begin blogging again. i'm sure all of you can see from my posts over the past two years the joy this blog brings me, and that hasn't changed. while looking back, it sometimes felt as though my second full-time job consisted of taking and editing photos of my outfits, but then i remember all of the things i would not have accomplished, all of the places i would not have been able to visit, and especially all of the amazing people i would not have met had it not been for the time and effort put into my blog - and those rewards make every minute worth it, 110%.

i feel as though since around january, i've really come into myself, as a person and as a woman. being humble, you will rarely ever hear me talk about myself (it was hard enough getting kind of personal in this post), but i've always been extremely independent and motivated, with a passion for life and a quiet confidence to be successful, do good things, and pursue what i love without worrying about others' thoughts and opinions. nothing could or can stop me. but last year, i realized something wasn't quite right. something was missing. what i wanted from life and what the people around me wanted from life were completely different. i wasn't sure what to do about it, so i just sat back and waited for the answers. but then, after a long business trip to dallas, something inside of me opened up, a feeling that made me really believe in myself. it inspired me to do exactly what i want and do it for no one else but myself, even if it meant taking a huge leap of faith. i had to get the ball rolling on my future.

i know it would have been relatively easy to continue life in small town indiana, but a part of me wasn't happy. so i did it. after much hard work and many sacrifices, i moved to chicago, and i love it here. despite the setbacks i've faced in the past four months, despite the many times i've wanted to run back home crying, there are so many reasons why it feels right here, and i do not regret my decision for one second. i am a strong person, probably stronger than anyone takes me for, and although no one can predict the future, i will, with all of the hope in the world, do what i can to make everything i have ever dreamed of become a reality.

still, right now, i'm in sort of a life funk - you know what i'm talking about? certain changes need to happen and big decisions need to be made. some things are going my way, exactly as i had planned; others, not so much. it happens to us all, and while i figure it all out, blogging does have to be put on the back burner. my passions haven't disappeared; my love for style, traveling, writing, and the internet, all the things that have to do and come along with blogging, are still alive and well. i don't think i've ever mentioned that i enjoy writing. i always have, ever since i was a child keeping diary upon diary. it's not like i'm a distinguished writer or that i have a way with words that comes easily to some people, but there's just something about expressing yourself through the written word that comes naturally to me, and often it's much easier to write how i feel than it is to speak what's on my mind. sometimes i look back and regret that i didn't pursue a degree in journalism or something of the sort, but then i realize that this blog is a great way to satisfy that little literature-loving piece of myself.

there's one thing i know for sure: i'm a simple person. it doesn't take much to make me happy. you'd be surprised that i've actually streamlined my life in so many ways. i've purged my closet and my life of everything unnecessary and i know just what i want, what i need, and exactly what will make me happy. once i smooth out a few kinks though, i will be back to blogging. i cannot promise when that will be, but i can promise that i will indeed return when the time is right, and sooner rather than later would be ideal. i want to continue to inspire you as much as you inspire me.

it has nothing and everything to do with this post, but here's my favorite quote right now: "the most ordinary things can be made extraordinary, simply by doing them with the right people." and it's so true. what is life without the exceptional people you choose to share it with; the living, learning, and growing you do together, the quality time spent and the memories you make?

what's up party people, i'm baaaack! if you've been following me on twitter, you know that two weeks ago i made the big move from indianapolis to chicago, and what an experience it has been. it's incredibly exciting to wake up everyday and know that i live in this beautiful city, and also very liberating to be supporting myself in my new position at work, and finally living on my own in my first (and currently very empty) apartment. i've become so domestic, you have no idea. decor is starting to take precedence over clothes...
while my priorities lie elsewhere at the moment, i promise all of you that i will be back to regular blogging very soon, once i get settled and the craziness of my new life calms down a bit. thank you from the bottom of my heart for sticking around during my blog hiatus, and i can only hope that the content of my posts will be bigger and better now that i can say i live in chicagoooo, and can take pics around the city.

i love it when the sun is shining but temperature is just cool enough for a sweater to be your only piece of outerwear. especially when said sweater is grandpa-esque and so giant you are swimming in it. today was one of those beautiful days :) what wasn't so beautiful was my hair. hence the messy bun, which i hate on me, but sometimes it's just necessary.

and no, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. if you're wondering how i went from being nearly translucent (i mean, look at my legs in this recent post - LOL) to slightly bronzed, i stripped down for my good friend laken and got my very first airbrush spray tan. i embrace my paleness, but it's kinda fun to look like i just got back from vacay (i wisssh). i get darker than this in the summer anyway (see here).

i'm shaking with nerves over the fact that all of you are about to view this, but it's finally here, my videos for the olsenboye spring 2011 campaign, and tons of pictures from the two days we shot in LA and venice beach! the behind the scenes video is a pleasant surprise, because i didn't know that one was being made :) i think everything turned out pretty cool, and i really hope you guys enjoy them! modeling is not something i can see myself pursing, as being in front of the camera just doesn't come that naturally for me, but what an exciting, fun, and memorable experience it was. the best part was meeting the bloggers aka my castmates and new friends natalie, olivia, karla and jazzi! thank you so much to everyone - chictopia, olsenboye, mary-kate and ashley olsen, digital brand architects, purple lab, moving image and content, the whole cast and crew of the shoot- who made it happen.

i've teamed up with nine west to celebrate the launch of their espadrille collection! this particular pair is very pretty (not to mention COMFORTABLE, key to every shoe i own), so i had to make them more effortless and dressed down with the addition of a tight mini dress and a military style jacket. i love the overall mix of feminine and edgy, my favorite way to dress.

a look back at 10 years of editorials styled by fashion god and icon emmanuelle alt for french vogue. she sure has a signature personal style and it comes through in her work too; she knows what she likes, what works for her, and she sticks to it - my kinda girl. my love for her is only intensified by the fact that she uses daria quite often (see image 1, 2 , 12, 13, 22, 23). like so many, i'm stoked that she's taken over as editorial-in-chief of the magazine. now if only i could fork over the cash to have french vogue shipped directly to my doorstep...

a pic of me taken during my visit to LA last month! this was the last day of the olsenboye campaign shoot, and we shot at a rental home in studio city. it certainly doesn't get sunny and 78 degrees in indy during january, so i took advantage of it and wore my favorite shorts ever. a lady working at the shoot said natalie (from natalie off duty, she was in the campaign too!) and i looked like we came "straight from a whitesnake concert". haha, loveeee it. natalie took this pic of me by the way :) there was full-length one, but my face looks terrible in it and the background is full of random junk so i'm just posting this candid one.

here's the first outfit from LA! this blouse/jeans/chunky heel look is my absolute favorite thing to wear. ever. i will never get sick of it. i wore this out to dinner and to wander around hollywood boulevard exactly two weeks ago (missing that fun, carefree day as we speak!). thank you california for allowing me to go sock-less and outerwear-less in the dead of winter, especially since i've been having to literally layer two coats here in indy to survive. the scarf was something i threw on later that night in my chilly hotel room. it's gigantic and blanklet-like and is the coolest graphic herringbone print; i love it.

here's my dallas photo diary (with commentary)!

northpark center, where i worked and therefore spent most of my time. it's the nicest mall i have ever been to - cool art, top notch stores, and a beautiful courtyard in the middle of it all.

can you believe it's sunny and 80 degrees in that first picture? in december?! insane!

went an explored the west end of downtown dallas after work one day. we saw where jfk was shot (not pictured), visited his memorial tomb, scoped out great architecture, and wanted to go up to the lookout in the reunion tower, but it was closed :(

went shopping with my co-workers aka my new friends on my first day off. saw more cool art and scluptures (& a crazy hood ornament) while walking, and it was my first time on a public transit train (i know, i know, but we don't have them in indy!). we visited dolly python (amazing vintage store), had some fun on a diagonal elevator, and then hit up lula b's antique mall before eating the best burger of my life at twisted root.

the burgers at twisted root were so good, i had to go back, this time to their newest location near the SMU campus, where they had this massive license plate wall. then i went mockingbird station, where i stopped by urban outfitters and got this pretty little sweater with nude mesh and a navajo scarf. later that night, i went with my friend from dallas to a local pub and saw a live cover band. love that they sang old rock songs everyone knows so you can sing along too!

went out with my co-workers on a saturday night off. the first stop was the ghost bar, 33 floors up in the W hotel. the view was amaaaaazing (see pics above), and the hip hop music had everyone dancing up a storm, but we weren't feeling the crowd or the expensive drinks, so we left pretty quickly and went to the new beauty bar. it's one of the coolest bars i've ever been to! very small with a hipster vibe, glittery walls, great music and great drinks. last stop was across the street at barcadia, where they have a wall lined with arcade games. it was a successful night out. my friend has more pics from this night so i might be adding them once i get my hands on them :)

sunday brunch to cure our slight hangovers. that's chris from minneapolis and i looking at the photos from the night before. we then decided to walk to a consignment shop, and while we didn't realize it would be like a three mile walk (!), finding a sprinkles store and having my first cupcake from there (red velvet!) made it well worth it. plus amy scored a silky black button down dress at the consignment store.

last pic is on the way home; we are enjoying hot chocolate and milk :)

my last night in dallas was probably my favorite. we all went out to the beauty bar again; it was to celebrate a few of us leaving and just to relax and have a great time after working so hard for so many weeks. we got a great drink that i think is called the buxom blowout and fawned over the glittery walls and really cool chandelier before meeting a guy who told us that if we wanted to have a good time, we should go to the slip inn across the street. we did just that, met up with some more friends after they got off work, and danced the night away!

had some fancy digs during my stay: full kitchen, dining area, living room, desk, closed off bedroom. thanks h&m!

some more things i purchased while down there: a madewell sequin jacket and light wool blazer (i always knew i'd love madewell, and i fell in love with that store!), forever 21 heels that look just like miu mius(!!) and AA opaque tights. i also got a really pretty velvet dress from my store that i plan on showing you guys soon in an outfit post:)
everything i bought was black, besides that navajo scarf. so typical, lol.

last but not least, a glimpse of the store that we poured our sweat and soul into; the first h&m preview and the reason for my trip to dallas!

& that was most of my month in photos! seriously, before i arrived, i did not think i would have as much fun as i did, or i would meet and work with as many amazing people as i did. i've made friends for life and have so many great memories to look back on.

the hush-hush and long hours of getting things ready is over, and the new h&m preview store is now open in northpark center! if you're near dallas, you have to come see it; it's a completely new concept for h&m and it looks awesome.
if you come before dec 22, you might spy me running around too :)

i've had only one day off in the past two weeks, so as soon as i have time, i'll be editing and posting some of my latest outfits and pics i've taken around dallas.

obsessed with the idea of casual elegance right now; mixing something kinda glam and dressy (like this lace dress) with something casual (like a giant boyfriend style coat) to make it more "me". i especially love doing this at night when casual is sort of unexpected, because dressing up is not what i do on daily basis (you're lucky to get me in a jeans and tee at work at 9am or even 3pm).

wore this out last tonight to see one of my favorite comedians daniel tosh perform stand up. you guys have seen tosh.o on comedy central right? hilarious!

i took these pictures for lookbook.nu's halloween costume contest, so i figured i might as well post them on my blog too :)

went out in downtown indy last night with some friends and my boyfriend to celebrate our favorite holiday, and i just had to wear the rodarte s/s 2010-inspired costume i wore last saturday again (if you missed it, see pics here).
funniest costume i saw at the bar: guy in just a robe, boxers, shaving cream all over his face, first pumping on the dancefloor with a razor in his hand. LOL!

i pulled this costume together one hour before my friend's halloween party last night, with just $2 in paint and a $5 lipstick. the dress is my h&m maxi that i wear all the time, and the belt is just a random rope. it was obviously inspired by rodarte s/s 2010 (and a recent post by lisa from lisaplace), and yes, i did have help with the body art - i chose the designs, and my mom painted (thanks mom!). needless to say, i had a blast being a "post-apocolyptic warrior princess".

here's what i wore to chicago last saturday, where i went as part of my birthday present =)
my boyfriend and i spent eight hours round trip on the road, and around eight hours shopping, so it was definitely a whirlwind trip! i didn't take but maybe ten pictures because it has just rained before we arrived and the weather was still crappy. we hit up my favorite high street shops, a pizza joint, and a few other places downtown before driving a little further north west for my first visit to an IKEA(!). i know it's not the highest quality furniture, but it sure is simple, inexpensive, and swedish, three things i adore :)

i cannot take full credit for this outfit, as it was inspired by the lovely katherine power from whowhatwear.com. she twitpic-ed this photo about two months ago, and i instantly fell in love with her perfect look. i think i have said this many times before, but it's so cool when you see an amazing outfit, and you realize that you have everything in your closet needed to recreate it. i knew i'd wear it once i finally got a shearling jacket, and my trip to chicago seemed like the perfect opportunity!

my favorite skyscraper in chicago. i think it's both commercial and residential units...how freaking amazing would it be to live at the top of this thing?! also demonstrated in this photo: new and old architecture, sitting beautifully side by side - another reason why i can't get enough of chicago.

i wore the leather jacket on a quick trip up to chicago this past saturday, so pics of that outfit will be up tomorrow or wednesday!

on a side note - i don’t buy things because they are trendy (and these two definitely are right now), but i will buy trendy things when they work with me and my tastes, and when they will fit seamlessly within my existing wardrobe. i think this is how you guys can streamline your shopping process too! i can see myself wearing these over and over again with the clothing i already own, and thinking like this before purchasing an item makes updating my closet so much easier, and less expensive too :)

i'm not the best at reviewing collections during fashion week(s), and i often get behind on viewing them, but here are my favorites from NYFW.

helmut lang is always ALWAYS one of my favorites, and this year,

they went light + fresh for spring. loves!

cushnie et ochs, a perfect mix of edgy and feminine. they are still sort of under the radar as of now, but if they keep coming out with collections like this (and this), then it won't stay that way for long.

michael kors sent some really great minimal looks down the runway! if these sparkly pants on freja were actually maxi skirt, i'd want to be wearing that entire outfit right now.
