hi guys! i've teamed up with shopbop to give one of you, my amazing readers, a
$100 shopbop.com gift card!
all you have to do is leave a comment on this post with your name and email address (must include both), and i will randomly choose a winner in ten days (saturday, november 3rd.) i'm quite ecstatic about this giveaway - good luck everyone!
i spoke too soon about no more bare legs! being able to rock one of my favorite silhouettes (mini + a giant knit) sans tights as i soak up what remains of absolutely perfect autumn weather has raised my already high spirits. what's on my agenda today? all i know is i'm starting out with a delicious stack of pancakes and a little halloween costume hunting.
be sure you come back tomorrow, i have a surprise giveaway for you :)
forever 21 stripe tee (similar here); vintage calvin klein denim jacket (similar here and here); thrifted cardigan; madewell skinny skinny high riser jeans in eclipse wash; michael korswatch; vintage rings; aldoboots (order one size up!).
i've worn variations of this look for the past week, all that include both the layered denim jacket and giant sweater plus a t-shirt (preferably striped) and jeans (preferably these deeply saturated madewell skinnies). streamlining my daily routine with some semblance of a uniform is one thing i kind of never want to stop. add these perfect old-yet-new-to-me boots and i'm set.
zara boots / chloe perfume / topshop dress / acne jacket / ray-ban sunglasses / the lake and stars bra / la garconne tee / sara boots / bars lipstick / monk skirt / cheap monday jeans / madewell jacket / michael kors watch / dorothy perkins ring / opening ceremony tank / isabel marant top / h&m shorts / ray-ban sunglasses/ rag & bone boots / marni clutch / zara bag / see by chloe boots / threadsence necklace / vanessa bruno / acne coat
trust me, i can't afford 99.9% of this/some pieces are so expensive it should be illegal but dammit if fashion sudoku isn't the best when it's an out-of-your-reach dream wardrobe. & the magic really happens when you thrift something identical to say, that opening ceremony tank, or acne coat.
dark with pops of warmth - this color scheme makes me so happy and reminds me why i love autumn.
probably the last bare-legged look you'll see in a long while, as chicago has officially made me turn my furnace on. not that i'm complaining, though. i couldn't be more thrilled to show off my coat and sweater collections in the coming weeks.
even if she wasn't one of my favorite girls on this planet, i would still be completely enamored with and thus posting these pictures, shot by my friend amy gee on her recent (solo!) eurotrip through paris, amsterdam, and brussels. she has an incredible eye, and nothing is more beautiful than beautiful people creating beautiful art. visit her tumblr you don't speak french for more snaps and a major case of wanderlust. i know i have it. barcelona is at the top of my list...y estoy aprendiendo espanol!
p.s. can't wait to see you next week, amyyyy :)
outfit details: thrifted denim shirt and cardigan, madewelljeans, michael kors watch, and aldo boots.
on tuesday i had the incredible opportunity of hosting the one year anniversary shopping event at madewell in old orchard. scouring the merchandise for pieces to style my mannequins and pick rack came all too easy because i basically want everything that's in stores at the moment. mixed prints, moody neutrals, buttoned-all-the-way-up shirts, slouchy knits, leather, and lots and lots of denim called to me, naturally. a pair of their new skinny skinny high risers in the river wash (also took home the eclipse wash) immediately became a part of my outfit and resulted in some double denim action, which you know i have never been against. other must-haves: the houndstooth sweater coat and the stadium jacket. it doesn't get much better than the fact that we basically hung out for three hours with a steady flow of shopping, treats, meeting new people, good conversation, and great music. shout-out to chelsea for showing up - i love that girl! and, speaking of great music, not needing to play DJ was the icing on top of the cake, as madewell has an awesome playlist that includes m.ward, dr. dog, milo greene, cold showers, chairlift, la sera, and neon indian, which in turn allowed me to bust out some signature caylee dance moves and lip synching that tends to happen when i hear my favorite songs.
at one point in the evening, someone asked me if i liked madewell, and while the answer is an incredibly loud and obnoxious yes, i also explained that i would never work with a brand that i didn't wholly support. i am wearing the merchandise, taking pictures at the event, and writing about the brand - it has to match my aesthetic and my lifestyle; be something that resonates with me and something that i would actually wear, so i am authentic and passionate when i share it with you, my audience.
thank you x1000 to madewell, store director liz, the entire old orchard staff, my amazing friends, and the happy happy shoppers for such a fun and successful night!
in case you missed my post last week, i am hosting a private shopping at the madewell in old orchard mall tomorrow, october 9th, from 6-9pm. if you live in chicago or the surrounding 'burbs, i'd love for you to come!
above are my favorites from the madewell fall 2012 lookbook, with number one being especially dear to my heart. meaning, can i have that on my body, stat? come get these pieces and more as we shop and chat and eat and be pre-holiday merry together.
here's all the deets again, and if you want to join in on the fun tomorrow, be sure to RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org
