chicago was infiltrated by the suarez sisters (natalie and dylana, natch) last weekend and i made damn sure to be a part of the adventure when time permitted. friday night i met up with them at their downtown hotel where we caught up on lost time and i introduced them to a chicago specialty and my personal favorite beer, 312. snacks at an irish pub followed by dancing the night away at rad and refined's summer launch rooftop party completed day one. after the party, we spent a good hour trying to catch a cab in no man's land, which lead to multiple photo ops on medians and in front of HARPO studios, all while blasting "cat daddy" on natalie's phone. they loved my city as much as i do.

my outfit: something about sun kissed shoulders and showing them off makes me giddy inside, so this cropped turtleneck is in heavy rotation at the moment, with everything from modest midi skirts to sexy denim cutoffs. french braids are making a comeback as my signature summer go-to, and my friend makes the best ones - this man will be famous as a stylist, i bet my left pinky toe on it.

hope you enjoyed this post :)

weekend update.

sorry for spamming the blog with instagram photos lately, but it's just THAT much easier when, ya know, life happens - i.e. i just ran five miles and biked three, my new roommate's moving in, i've found heaven in the form of a secluded beach, i'm learning a new language, thrifting is more fun when it's 100 degrees out (did somebody say AC?), my work schedule is a lovely hot mess of eight hour shifts ranging from 7am to 10pm + an hour commute, aaaand my favorite gals the natalie and dylana were in chicago, meaning everything got put on hold while i frolicked around with them for the weekend. more on our adventures coming soon. oh yes, busy is a blessing. i promise real photos for you soon, but for now, here we are, hanging out on my couch and shit. saturday night + sangria. i love the suarez sisters.

bounce after blowout.

post-haircut: heavy bangs, light layers. you guys know i always have to have things a little mussed-up, imperfect. the only products i use: burt bees very volumizing pomegranate + soy shampoo and conditioner, and garner fructis volumizing hair spray. i have been using this combination for six months and have seen nothing but positive results. a straightening iron creates waves when nature doesn't do the job.
simple styling for simple summer hair.

it print.

h&m blouse, shorts and sunglasses; thrifted belt; love cortnie clutch c/o shopjeen
forever 21 bracelet; vintage rings; michael kors watch.

punching up a simple sheer blouse and boyfriend style cutoffs with an ikat clutch from shopjeen
the "it" print is a head turner and an outfit maker and the perfect piece for summer.
another recent acquisition is this beautiful watch that i have lusted after forever and know i'll have for just as long (forever).
check out the selection of michael kors watches they have over at watchesonnet.com so you can own a timeless piece as well.

today was the perfect saturday filled with biking, sunbathing, and classic reads at my secret beach spot.
can everyday be like this? i'll try for a repeat tomorrow.

resort-ing.

3.1 philip lim, proenza schouler, burberry prorsum, and 10 crosby derek lam - resort 2013
images via style.com

thank god the wealthy like to vacation; it allows us mere mortals to draw countless inspiration from the easy-to-wear resort collections.
case in point: these no brainer pieces and silhouettes in nude, denim, prints and a jolt of cool color tones. my affinity for button down blouses, long over short hemlines, and leg maximizers (ahem, minis & skinnies) is quite apparent here. cue copycat looks, asap.

the one that got away.

see by chloe sandal

on my radar and unavailable on the world wide web faster than i can say "my dream shoe". anyone know what season these see by chloe's are even from? desperate times call for desperate measures, including the fact that i have to be up for work in five hours yet i'm obsessively stalking eBay for what could easily be the one that got away. if i found them, i wouldn't buy another pair of shoes for the rest of the year.
okay okay, maybe we won't go that far. but three cheers for a sandal that i would wear with everythingggg. legit.

grimes.

Grimes by Max Abadian for Bullett Magazine

claire boucher aka grimes. one awe-inspiring, all-around badass babe.
channeling the 80s in this recent photoshoot, i can't help but love her even more.
bangs, gold, denim? yes please.
and her songs are magical and full of synth and soul, transforming you to a euphoric state.
check out my favorite from her latest album below.
preferably on repeat.

memorial weekend.

the best idea i had all day: vanilla waffle cone.
wearing h&m men's shirt, h&m belt and bag, vintage and la dama rings,
forever 21 bracelet, asos watch, and levi's shorts.

like i said in yesterday's post, i love love love letters like this from an old sign.
a lowercase "c" would be so ideal.

here's my latest obsession and only purchase from the randolph street market: an evil eye ring!
(see right index finger. similar style here, and i love this one too)

saturday night dancing outfit: crop jersey turtleneck from forever 21 (buy here in solid or stripe),
thrifted belt, and h&m high rise jeans and purse. oh and check my "vintage" radio phone case from zero gravity (get it at shopjeen!)

mega appetizers from DMK burger bar in lakeview put aimee and i in a french fry coma.
we killed all three of these (sweet potato was hands down my fave). #bloggerswhoeat

hanging out at the bar III tent at the randolph market on sunday.
i beat the heat in an h&m bikini worn as a bandeau.
belt, purse, necklace, and skirt (same one from thursday's outfit post!) are all also h&m.
the sunnies are ray-ban (purchase here!), and the earrings are forever 21.

aimee, wesley and i played tourists and walked around the navy pier at sunset.
this picture captures the mood of the evening perfectly.

more ice cream. waffle cones will be the death of me this summer.
oreo cookie for aimee (her arm swag is killin' iiiiiit), and rocky road for myself.

hope you enjoyed my memorial day weekend through the eyes of my iPhone.

randolph street market.

all photos by me

saturday was the first day and my first time ever attending the randolph street market. side note - my one year anniversary of living in chicago was this week! i now consider myself a chicagoan but still play a tourist in my own city often, as time permits. there's still so much to experience.

back to the market: these pictures were taken as my friend mary and i weaved our way through perfectly curated vendor booths. my favorite pictures are #1 (oh this mint, rustic, industrial glory), #4 (white desk, upholstered chair, wallpaper lined trunk, and again with the mint...), #5 (check out the pony on the front of the whiskey set!), #10 (loveeee the "e"), #12 (the flowers in the vase are made of paper!), #14 (i want to dance with my future husband to this vintage radio), #21 (empty frames, yes please), and #25 (made me whisper cha cha cha to myself all afternoon). if you couldn't tell, i have an unhealthy affinity toward chairs at the moment. chairs rule.

markets like the randolph street market are my idea of perpetual bliss; being surrounded by history and nostalgia, romance and whimsy, food and music (may i suggest a waffle cone and homemade guacamole?), like-minded individuals, personal style, and aesthetically pleasing goodies, never gets old. there were too many pieces that i wanted to cram into my little apartment. okay, i take that back - i'm pretty simple, and hauling a shoe bench or bistro table on the ashland bus isn't ideal. just a few knick knacks would have whet my appetite; what i really wanted was one of those tin letters from old sign. but alas, i ended the day with nothing but my newest obsession, a gold evil eye ring (pictures coming soon!).

next time, randolph market, next time. i'll be the one walking around with a perma-smile and sun-kissed shoulders. see you there.
